Peer Mentoring Programme

Peer Mentoring Programme
The Peer Mentoring Programme- some of the pictures contain some of our alumni.

Peer Mentors are student leaders and role models in our school.

5th Year students apply for consideration and are interviewed by 6th Year peer mentors to assess their suitability.

All peer mentors complete the Foróige Leadership Programme Level 1. They then have the opportunity to go on to complete Levels 2 & 3 and can graduate from NUIG with a foundation certificate in Youth & Community Action.

Peer Mentors have an important role in supporting the transition of students from 6th Class to 1st Year. They facilitate the transfer programme with St.Aidans SNS. This initiative aims to make the transition from primary to secondary school more enjoyable and less intimidating for in-coming 1st year students. The mentors continue to support and guide new students throughout 1st Year. Peer Mentors are also responsible for the management of the Morning club which is available to all students.

Peer Mentors have opportunities to develop the following skills

  • Leadership

  • Team Building

  • Critical thinking

  • Communication skills

  • Team problem solving

  • Self Awareness

  • Values

  • Community volunteering

  • Developing smart goals

  • Facilitation skills

  • Presentation skills

Many thanks to Ms.Dunleavy for the above information.
